Participant Observer is an independent film company that produces and distributes films that explore culturally relevant artistic individuals. An identity and motion treatment were created to convey the intelligent, curious and offbeat ethos that characterizes their work.
For his documentary about the life and work of the artist Trimpin, director Peter Esmonde wanted the poster to be powerful and evoke the work of his subject. Trimpin is a composer and a sculptor, so the typography used in the poster and supporting materials had both sculptural and musical characteristics.
To capture the haunting and ethereal nature of the music created by Ellen Fullman, Theresa Wong and Luciano Chessa, film stills and bold typography were used.
