studio1500 was founded in 2007 by Erik Schmitt and Julio Martínez, two former Pentagram designers. We work to build long-term client relationships and develop thoughtful solutions that endure and evolve over time. We excel at addressing critical business challenges by building intelligent, engaging design systems, and we carry out ideas with an attention to detail that ensures compelling, effective results.
Our clients include the San Francisco Arts Commission, the San Francisco Zoo, the San Francisco Unified School District, Fuego, Xerox PARC, the Computer History Museum, The Fatted Calf Charcuterie, and many others.
Our work has have received awards from the AIGA, the Western Art Directors Club, the Industrial Designers Society of America, Exhibitor, Graphis, the International Design Excellence Award (IDEA), and has also been featured in several books Logo Design Love, Signage Design, Just Design and blogs FPO, Imprint, Cosas Visuales, Minimal Sites, Visuelle, Aisle One, Evasée.
Partner and Creative Director
Erik has worked with The Office of Michael Manwaring, Pentagram Design, and as a freelance designer. These experiences have allowed him to work on everything from environmental projects to branding and packaging. His work has been recognized by a wide variety of publications and organizations. He was selected as a 2018 Rome Prize finalist in design from the American Academy in Rome. He received a BFA with Distinction in Design from the California College of the Arts and is an accomplished photographer.

Partner and Creative Director
Born in México City, Julio has worked as a freelance designer and at Pentagram Design, where he worked on a broad range of branding, print, web and packaging projects. Julio received a BFA in Graphic Design from San José State University, where he is currently a Lecturer in their Department of Design. He served as the Diversity Chair at the AIGA San Francisco Board of Directors from 2012-2018, and is also an avid illustrator.

Miriam is a strategist and writer who has worked as a Senior Consultant at Interbrand, where she advised companies such as Google, Adobe, Intel, and Clorox on their brand and messaging strategies. She is the founder of Brand Plume, where she combines analytical rigor and creative expression to help brands powerfully connect with their audiences. Miriam holds an MBA in marketing from UCLA Anderson and a BA from Columbia University in anthropology and writing.
Kim is a copywriter, content manager, editor and social media consultant specializing in brand expression and utilizing high-level creative strategies and content/ copy solutions for retail and corporate communications. Her areas of expertise include brand development, full campaigns, email, mobile and online assets; as well as taglines and longer form editorial pieces.
